Ottawa, Feb 01, 2019: An announcement was made by Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, earlier this week that Canada will be hosting the 10th ministerial meeting of the Lima Group in Ottawa, Ontario on Feb 4, 2019, media reports said.

Since 2015, over 3 million Venezuelans have been forced to leave their homes in search of food, health care and other basic service.

This led to establishment of Lima Group — comprised of over a dozen countries from Latin America and the Caribbean — on August 8, 2017 to address the political, economic and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela — a country on the northern coast of South America — challenging the entire hemisphere.

During that time, there have been nine official meetings of the Lima Group, including a ministerial meeting hosted by Canada in Toronto, Ontario on October 26, 2017.

The forthcoming meeting of the Lima Group of countries on Feb 4 will bring together the foreign ministers of the Lima Group countries as well as participants from the broader international community to discuss steps to be taken to support interim president Juan Guaidó and the people of Venezuela.
